Elementary schools are provided the opportunity to join the Fresh Fruit and Vegetable program, which is sponsored by the United States Department of Agriculture. Mapleton Elementary participates in this program and students are able to try out different items that they might not have otherwise. From the Oregon Department of Education site it outlines:

The FFVP’s goals are three-fold:

1. expand the variety of fruits and vegetables children experience,
2. increase children’s fruit and vegetable consumption, and
3. positively impact children’s present and future health by helping them learn more healthful eating habits.
